In response to COVID-19, Montgomery County restaurants can deliver alcohol with take-out food orders. Montgomery Parks' Picnic in the Park program encourages park visitors to enjoy restaurant delivery and outdoor dining in area parks.
In September 2020, Montgomery Parks issued a Park Directive that temporarily suspends the prohibition on alcohol in nine parks to allow patrons, 21 years of age and older, to legally consume alcohol within designated areas and between the hours of 11 a.m. to dusk. The pilot program started Thursday, September 24, and ran through Monday, May 31, 2021, with an option to extend the pilot for one more year.
On May 27, 2021, the park directive was extended for an additional 12 months and the number of parks included in the pilot was expanded from nine to 13.
The pilot program allows patrons, 21 years of age or older, to responsibly consume alcohol from 11am to dusk within designated picnic areas of 13 parks.
